ST. JOHN CEMETERY

Historic St. John Cemetery in Plaquemine is a fascinating Backroads destination. Inside its ornate cast iron borders you will find local family history dating back over 200 years. Due to the high water table, most of the tombs are above ground, like most south Louisiana Cemeteries. The quiet scerenity seems to make time stand still as you explore the site. Over the centuries, both time and Vandals have taken their toll on even the most simplest of graves. Broken marble, cracked plaster and brick reminds you that nothing in this world is forever. It is a place of Millions of Memories forgotten over time, and now only spoken by what once was, in the backroads of our minds.
